Dry needling can be an incredibly effective way of reducing symptoms of pain in many areas of the body.
Many people think that it's Acupuncture - but it isn't. Dry needling uses the same microthin needles that Acupuncture uses, but that's where the similarities end. There are many "versions" of Dry needling, but the one we practice is "GEMT" dry needling, the results of which can be dramatic.
We find what is known as a "trigger point" in muscle groups - these are ares of high tension - almost like what people would call a "knot" in the muscle, and introduce a small needle into that point, which can have the effect of slightly "twitching" the muscle. When a muscle twitches, the trigger point releases, and the corresponding pain in that area or an area related to that point is often very quickly reduced.
The same needle in the same place for the same presenting complaint can vary with regard to how it "feels". We find that 8/10 people feel very little if anything at all. Some people feel it more though. It is variable how each individual feels - but most literally say "that just feels a bit weird".
We are not allowed to publish results on this website, but we can say that we are sometimes amazed just how effective this can be in addition to what we do within our Osteopathic work.
